More so than any other Sims 3 expansion, Ambitions exploded the world that sims lived in. (This is perhaps not such a grandiose achievement if one considers that the only other expansion out before Ambitions was 'World Adventures'.)

Building a simbot is the end game reward of persevering through the Inventor skill chain without electrocuting yourself to death. You can't build a simbot until you finish several quests, which require not only skill, but luck as well. Before you embark upon this quest, I must warn you that it is both perilous (largely to your mental health) and somewhat tedious. It is a time sink, which is not really typical of Sims 3 gameplay, so you may hate it at first, and you may hate it at last because: SPOILER ALERT.

If you get 40,000 lifetime rewards points, you can have a simbot join your household without the need of spending a week mucking about collecting various rocks and gems and seeds (including two of the most rare materials in the game) and whatnot.

In Breaking News (a month ago,) EA has released a World Builder tool in Beta for Sims 3 enthusiasts who want to create their own worlds. The tool allows players to create worlds from the ground up, and heralds in a whole new era of player directed game design.

The world builder tool is fairly straightforward, but you will need to read the instruction manual to make it actually work because essential functions are hidden in right click menus. Once you figure out where you are what you'll find are are several starting maps and the tools to place roads, lanes, lots and spawn points throughout the maps. Everything is customizable, right down to the gradient of the road.

It's obvious that the long term success of The Sims 3 will depend entirely on the expansion packs. World Adventures has brought some truly interesting features to the game and prompted widespread whining about the linear element of game play it gives you the option to partake in. The people whining about that are the same sort of people who would whine about it if you gave them a free chocolate ice cream because they really wanted vanilla.

Sims 3 World Adventures Expansion: China!

Sims 3 World Adventures, China has just been unveiled in a teasing, preview sort of way, and I think that I am not alone in saying, wow, this looks amazing! There were more than a few fears about the place prior to this release, one of them being that the new locations wouldn't be anything special. I think it is safe to say that EA has proved the nay sayers wrong on this one. Their dungeons of graphics artists must be full to overflowing, the cracking of overseer's whips breaking the air every other second.

As the release of the expansion pack draws ever nearer, EA teases us with promised of added functionality. Using the new 'basement creation' tool, we'll be able to build basements which will function as tombs. Tomb objects, such as Sarcophagi, in which you can Woohoo, or out of which a mummy may spring to curse you, Floor Switches, which can activate or deactivate behaviors, Treasure Chests, which you can apparently fill with treasures, Torch Levers, which may sometimes activate behaviors and sometimes not, and many more fun objects.

DANGER: Sims 3 World Adventures Too Adventurous For Many Players

What non Sims 3 players, or Sims 3 players who do not frequent the official EA forums might not realize is that far more exciting than playing the Sims 3 is complaining about it. Some sims players are so experienced that they are actually capable of complaining about an expansion pack before it even arrives. This is almost an Olympic level of whining, and I think it is something we should reward with medals and shiny objects. Perhaps something overpriced from the Sims 3 store?

Because the cost of pixels has skyrocketed since EA got into the online content game. For a standard 40 piece 'set' which is essentially a series of pictures of household items, EA would like you to give them $15 USD.

I like the fact that, by the looks of this video, you'll actually be able to go and explore inside the pyramids. One of the (few) disappointments of the Sims 3 is that you can only look inside a few of the popular public buildings, such as the Library, and the Community Gym, but not any of the workplaces, or the school or what not. How interesting and worthwhile the Sims 3 World Adventures actually turns out to be depends on how much it really opens up the Sims 3 world and if it adds any depth to it. If it is simply more superficial content without any expanded playability, then it will be a temporary boon at best.

AwesomeMod, one of the most popular mods for the Sims 3 opens up the game in ways which make it far less tedious than the original version. AwesomeMod allows you to turn off the annoying prompts which double check that you don't want to delete a character, or quit the game entirely. It also stops a few of the more annoying game dynamics from occurring, such as Sims not in the active house suddenly disappearing from the game world. (Where do they move to, those sims who move out of town, never to be heard from again? What lies beyond the borders of Riverview and Sunset Valley?
